How to volunteer

Docents (Tour Guides), Receptionist and Helpers

Thank you for your interest in volunteering at the Voice of America Museum!

No prior museum experience is required.

In fact, most of our volunteers begin with little or no knowledge of the Voice of America or Bethany Station and quickly discover how enjoyable and rewarding it is to become a docent or receptionist.

If you enjoy history, storytelling, meeting people, or lifelong learning, you will find the Voice of America story both fascinating and inspiring. From helping win World War II to promoting freedom and understanding around the globe, VOA has played an important role in shaping history—and continues to do so today.

Our visitors consistently tell us that the guided tour is one of the most engaging and memorable museum experiences they have ever had. As a volunteer, you will help bring this remarkable story to life for guests from across the country and around the world.

We provide easy-to-understand training materials and plenty of support along the way. You'll begin by shadowing an experienced docent, allowing you to observe tours firsthand and become comfortable in a relaxed and welcoming environment before leading tours on your own.

The museum is open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from Noon to 4:00 PM. We ask volunteers to serve a minimum of two days per month, and you're always welcome to volunteer more often if you wish. Best of all, you choose the days that fit your schedule.

We would be delighted to have you join our volunteer team and become part of preserving and sharing this unique chapter of American and world history.
